SARFAN Community, after weeks of Russia’s world-famous war crimes against Ukrainian civilians, soldiers are finally beginning to face a wave of consequences from their unprovoked war.

On May 31, Russian soldiers Alexander Bobikin and Alexander Ivanov were both sentenced to 11 years and 6 months for war crimes they pleaded guilty to committing early in the invasion.

Their crimes? Shelling civilians. Specifically, using missiles to target small villages in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. During that bombing, they destroyed an educational building and cultural center in Derhachi.

Last week, we reported that Vadim Shishimarin, a 21-year-old Russian tank commander, was the first Russian soldier convicted for war crimes in The Kremlin’s attack on Ukraine. Now, after Bobikin and Ivanov’s convictions, Ukraine is showing the world that they will not tolerate, nor easily forget, the undignified crimes against its people.

Despite Putin’s acting otherwise, we predict that these three convictions are only the start of a pattern where Russia will finally start facing consequences for all their relentless killing of Ukrainians and all the destruction they have caused. We as Europeans and as world citizens, will not let Putin’s regime get away with what they’ve done, the damage they’ve caused, and the lives they’ve taken. There will be more war crimes trials. And we will still be here, continuing to talk about it and holding The Kremlin accountable.

Stay safe, stay aware, stay connected.
